Kavilumpara Grama Panchayat is a village panchayat that falls under Kunnunmmal Block in Vatakara Taluk of Kozhikode District. The boundaries of the panchayat, which has an area of 84.81 square kilometers, are Narippatta and Thondarnad (Wayanad District) panchayats to the north, Thondarnad, Vellamunda, and Padinjarathara panchayats of Wayanad district to the east, Kayakkodi and Maruthonkara panchayats to the west, and Maruthonkara and Chakkittapara panchayats to the south. The current Kavilumpara and Maruthonkara panchayats were formed by splitting the Kavilumpara panchayat in 1977. It is here that the world-famous Kavilumpara coconut is produced. About 3.5 crore coconuts are produced here annually. Kavilumpara is a panchayat located on the eastern border of Kozhikode district, adjacent to Wayanad district, spread over 72 kilometers, comprising hills, valleys, and protected forest land. The place name 'Kavilumpara' is believed to have originated from a rock (Para) where Punam farmers used to stand guard (Kaval).
